Expeditions at Home Launched July 6th

Cancelling our summer 2020 expeditions due to COVID-19 gave Inspiring Girls Expeditions the unique opportunity to explore a new style of learning adventure. On July 6th, thanks to the efforts of staff and instructors, and the generous contributions of donors, Inspiring Girls Expeditions launched it’s pilot program of Expeditions at Home, an innovative virtual experience in science, art and outdoor exploration that young women can access from their own homes.

We’re halfway through the program and having a great time! We’ve hosted three virtual workshops as part of our Observe & Discover workshop series. This past week in our Explore and & Connect program, participants designed field research projects and this week they will dive into exploring their local areas and gathering data.

In this pilot year, this virtual expedition was available to a diverse selection of girls from our 2020 applicant pool. In the coming years, Expeditions at Home will allow us to take many (but not all!) aspects of our wilderness expeditions and offer it to more girls in a slightly different way.

Adventure of Science: Women and Glaciers in Central Asia 2020 Expedition replaced by new program

Adventure of Science: Women and glaciers in Central Asia expedition 2020 replaced by new program: Adventure of Science at Home

The instructors, staff, and leadership team of Adventure of Science: Women and glaciers in Central Asia expedition have met to discuss the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on our September expedition. Unfortunately, we are heartbroken to announce that we are canceling the Adventure of Science: Women and glaciers in Central Asia expedition in Kyrgyzstan this year. This was an incredibly difficult decision to make, and we realize that it will be very disappointing for our applicants - it is for us, too. Despite this year's complicated situation, we would like to inspire curiosity, courage, and creativity also this year and we are preparing an alternative program for our selected team. We are excited to be testing a new program this September: Adventure of Science at Home. This program will be closed with an online event open for all applicants and other interested people. We will continue to post updates on our website and social media accounts, so please stay tuned!

Thank you for supporting Adventure of Science: Women and glaciers in Central Asia  and Inspiring Girls Expeditions - we hope you are staying safe and well.
