Cancelling our summer 2020 expeditions due to COVID-19 gave Inspiring Girls Expeditions the unique opportunity to explore a new style of learning adventure. On July 6th, thanks to the efforts of staff and instructors, and the generous contributions of donors, Inspiring Girls Expeditions launched it’s pilot program of Expeditions at Home, an innovative virtual experience in science, art and outdoor exploration that young women can access from their own homes.
We’re halfway through the program and having a great time! We’ve hosted three virtual workshops as part of our Observe & Discover workshop series. This past week in our Explore and & Connect program, participants designed field research projects and this week they will dive into exploring their local areas and gathering data.
In this pilot year, this virtual expedition was available to a diverse selection of girls from our 2020 applicant pool. In the coming years, Expeditions at Home will allow us to take many (but not all!) aspects of our wilderness expeditions and offer it to more girls in a slightly different way.
