Explore outside your front door
Expeditions@Home is an experience designed for high school-aged girls and gender expansive youth who want to explore their home in new ways, connect with others across the U.S. and Canada, and learn about different regions and life experiences through these explorations and connections. The objective of Expeditions@Home is to demonstrate that adventure starts with curiosity and that every landscape holds wisdom worth exploring and learning from, even ones that seem very familiar to us. Through conversations we have about environmental and social justice, time we spend observing and interpreting our surroundings through art and science, and stories we share about ourselves, our communities, and our environment, we dig deep into our relationship and connections with each other and our landscapes. In the process, we develop a deeper sense of place and a greater appreciation for our role in our environment.
The Expedition
Immerse yourself in a community centered around nature, art, and science by connecting regularly with a team of 10-12 participants and two instructors. The Expeditions@Home expeditions will take place over two weeks in July. Before the expedition begins, you will receive a field journal and box of tools for exploration in the mail. Your team will meet twice a day for 90 minutes via video chat for thoughtful discussions and collaboration and you will complete activities away from the screen between meetings.
As a member of an Expeditions@Home team, you will delve into the relationship between art and science, explore those relationships in your space, and learn about other landscapes from your teammates’ explorations. You will work intimately with your team and mentors to develop personal and team knowledge and skills.
