Pronouns: she/her
Ever since my parents took me camping as a kid, I have had a passion for nature. As a result, I pursued a career in Biology and worked for Environment Canada until the government downturn in 2015 when I lost my job. To make ends meet, I moved into the work-at-height industry, where I teach workers how to prepare for emergencies and to develop safe work habits, or do maintenance on buildings and wind turbines from a set of ropes. In this industry, womyn are very much in the minority.
I strongly believe in the need for more womyn in STEM and the outdoors, as womyn are underrepresented in both these areas. So when I heard about Girls on Ice Canada, I wanted to get involved. I want to help empower the next generation of womyn to explore fearlessly, to question without reservation, and to love the natural world. I find volunteering with Girls on Ice very inspiring, as I get to work with other highly skilled womyn who share my passions.
During my spare time, you can find me out birding, canoeing, backpacking, biking, rock and ice climbing, or nerding out about the plants and animals I see. I am currently teaching myself about butterflies, damselflies and dragonflies by using capture-and-release methods.
