An update on our summer 2021 North American programming

We want to sincerely thank everyone who applied to Inspiring Girls Expeditions this year! We have loved reading your applications.

We are planning a mixture of modified in-person (Girls on Ice, Girls on Rock, Girls on Water, and Girls in the Forest) and Expeditions@Home programming for this coming summer. We have been hard at work over the past several months developing plans that mitigate the risk of COVID-19 while allowing us to provide once-in-a-lifetime experiences for our participants.

The format of our in-person expeditions will be modified to reduce the risk of COVID-19. This includes limiting the geographical regions from which we will be accepting participants for our in-person expeditions this year. Applicants who are outside of our designated geographical regions for in-person expeditions are being considered for our Expeditions@Home program.

Below are the geographical regions from which we will be selecting applicants for in-person expeditions:

  • If you live in Alaska, you are being considered for expeditions based in Alaska (Girls on Ice Alaska, Girls on Water, & Girls in the Forest)

  • If you live in Oregon or Washington, you are being considered for Girls on Ice Cascades and an Oregon-specific Expeditions@Home team

  • If you live in Colorado or New Mexico, you are being considered for Girls on Rock

  • If you live in British Columbia, you are being considered for Girls on Ice Canada

All other applicants are being considered for our Expeditions@Home program. We are excited to return to our more geographically diverse teams in 2022 because we value learning from each other across many different communities and cultures. This year our Expeditions@Home teams will benefit from the geographic diversity of interacting with participants across North America from their own homes!

We’ve received several questions about how we will approach COVID-19 vaccinations. We highly encourage anyone who is eligible to get vaccinated to do so as soon as possible. At this point, we are not deciding on whom to select for teams based on vaccinations. Instead, we will be implementing COVID-19 safety precautions based on the assumption that some or all of our participants will not yet be vaccinated. This means that we will ask all participants, even those who have already been vaccinated, to follow measures like physical distancing, mask wearing, frequent hand washing, etc for the duration of the expedition.

We are finalizing our operation plans for the summer and will be in contact with everyone who applied for our 2021 expeditions by mid-April. Thank you for your patience!
