I am an expeditionary artist following the tradition of traveling artists as naturalists and educators. I have worked with Inspiring Girls Expeditions since 2006, including as a full instructor in 2007 and 2008, and am thrilled to be part of the Girls in Icy Fjords 2017 instructor team. I graduated from Carleton College in 2004 and received a post-grad Thomas J. Watson fellowship to travel and paint around the world. Since then, I have focused on alpine and polar landscapes, working with scientists and expeditions in the Pacific NW, Alaska, Greenland, and the Antarctic Peninsula to bridge art, science, and environmental awareness. In the field, I sketch and collect multimedia recordings to build my palette of place, a record of experience, climate, and color. This work becomes the basis for exhibits of large-scale studio and field paintings, as well as multimedia presentations and hands-on workshops for audiences of all ages.
