Pronouns: she/her/hers
I’ve been researching and teaching about glaciers for 20 years, and am an Assistant Professor at the University of Innsbruck, and Assistant Director of the Juneau Icefield Research Program, which is an outdoor education and research program based in Alaska. I particularly love the inspiration that comes from keen observation of the landscape around us, and have had the privilege to spend time leading research teams on glaciers in the Austrian Alps as well as the Nepalese Himalaya, Norway, Arctic Canada, Svalbard, Alaska, the Chilean and Peruvian Andes, and the mountains of East Africa. I have a BSc in Geography from the University of Edinburgh, a PhD in Glaciology from the University of St Andrews, and a habilitation in Atmospheric and Cryospheric Science from the University of Innsbruck. I am currently also studying for a MA in Art and Science at the University of Applied Art in Vienna.
I’m convinced of the power of effective mentoring as a means to tackle inequality of opportunity and experience in science and generally in life, and am really pleased to be a part of Inspiring Girls Expeditions as it allows me to share my impactful experiences in the mountains with other young women, and support them in achieving their goals in their adult lives.
