In many ways, my participation in Girls on Ice Cascades in 2010 led me to where I am today: a Glaciology graduate student who likes to be outdoors and volunteers with Inspiring Girls Expeditions. After the expedition I stayed in touch with my instructors, Erin Pettit, Cecelia Mortenson, and Kari Stiles. Erin especially mentored me as I decided to pursue glaciology, which led to research opportunities with Erin in Antarctica and now my position as a graduate student at the University of Washington.
Today I reflect back on my 2010 experience and I find it amazing how much we can all learn from each other in a safe, welcoming, inquisitive, and natural environment. The program is a group learning experience that leads to personal growth for participants and instructors alike. This is my experience with Inspiring Girls Expeditions and this is what makes me so excited to be involved.
