I’m coming from the flatlands, where small hills grew up to high mountains. Glaciers? No way. But through my studies in Geography, I become fascinated about mountains & glaciers and started to explore them. A PhD in remote sensing related to a high alpin ice core research project and a current PostDoc & teaching position followed at the University of Bern, Switzerland. Having done research in the Himalayas as well as the Alps and the Altai, I experienced different disciplinary approaches as well as initiatives to cope with climate change in person in the field as well as remote from satellite observations. Its a extreme wild, but also fragile nature. Every young women should have a chance to explore and experience it, becoming inspired, empowered as well as conscious about the ice-covered mountains. I’m enthusiastic to support Girls on Ice doing so.
