She/Her/Hers
My name is Gabriela and I am a PhD student in glaciology at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. I combine fieldwork observations and mathematical modeling to better understand physical processes happening at the glacier bed.
Studying glaciology has enabled me to pursue both my love for the outdoors and science and it has taken me to many spectacular places. I have spent three summers doing fieldwork in the St. Elias Mountains in Kluane National Park, Yukon. Despite a lot of hard work involved, whenever I go back, I always feel privileged to be able to be there and inspired to keep asking questions and exploring. As a part of the Inspiring Girls Expeditions team, I want to share that feeling with young women and help them build their confidence and appreciation of nature.
When I am not spending time outside, I love to bake, read, and play board games.
