she/her/hers
I am a science outreach coordinator for research grants at the University of Alaska Anchorage. I received my bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Psychology from the University of Colorado, Boulder. There, I started my career in sociological disaster research which got me hooked on the research process and looking at scientific questions through various community lenses. As a born and raised Alaskan, I was excited to move home and join a team of multidisciplinary researchers studying Alaska’s changing climate, and the impacts those changes will have on our landscapes and communities. While I find the entire research process fascinating, my job is to connect people with science in creative ways. I was drawn to be a part of the Girls on Water expedition because it brings together scientific inquiry, the outdoors, and a person’s creative artistic side. It is definitely one of the most enjoyable ways to interact with science, and I love the opportunity to see new girls connect with the experience in their own special way.
In my free time at home you can find me nesting: cooking, gardening, crafting, or reading a good book. However, I most enjoy getting outside camping, skiing, and going on long walks with my dog Bailey.
