Pronouns: she/her/hers
I am an undergraduate studying Mechanical Engineering and German language at Oregon State University. My particular interest is in sustainable design, i.e. designing/building things that use less energy and are more environmentally friendly. Growing up, I never imagined I would pursue a career in the sciences. I was neither good at nor enjoyed math, and therefore didn’t think I could have a career in a science-based field. What I eventually learned however — with help from an amazing (and very patient) physics teacher — was that just because I struggled to learn STEM subjects, didn’t mean I couldn’t pursue one as a career.
One reason I am thrilled to be a part of IGE is because I’ve experienced the difference a pre-college program can make. The OSU pre-college program SESSEY played a huge role in my decision to major in engineering. It allowed me to meet other girls who were similarly excited, yet uncertain, about pursuing STEM careers. Being able to talk with girls my age about what drew us into science and the doubts we still had about pursuing it, was really validating and gave me a valuable support network as I started my college career. I am glad to be able to help give other girls similar experience and confidence via IGE.
In my free time, I enjoy pretty much any kind of arts ‘n crafts, going for long walks, and when I get the chance going backpacking. I also love all aspects of theatre, from watching to teching to acting.
