My first approach to Glaciology was not through the pages of a textbook. Glaciers first enthralled me during long hikes, through the peace I could find on a lonely trail above the treeline, surrounded by the echoes of my footsteps among the rocks and the gentle murmur of meltwater streams. To keep my mind busy while hiking, I started to wonder how those ice masses came to be and what were the laws governing their functioning. Little by little, this pastime turned into a hobby, then a passion and finally a life choice. As a MSc student in Glaciology, I investigate the interaction between the atmosphere and the Alpine glaciers, with a special focus on how they exchange energy with their surroundings.
When I am not at the university, you might find me in the shade of the Botanical Garden with my nose buried in a book or with a backpack on my shoulders hiking anything within reach around Innsbruck. If the day is truly nice, I will bring out the guitar and sit along the Inn with a few friends, teaching them Italian songs!
I strongly believe Inspiring Girls Expedition has the potential to unlock doors to many unexpected futures for other girls*, you never know what you might find on the long way up!
