Growing up in New York City, I never really got to spend as much time in nature as I wanted. Instead, my “expeditions'' mostly involved going to the library and the local natural history museum. This really stoked my interests in pursuing the earth sciences as a career and encouraged me to pursue a degree in geology and geophysics at the University of Wisconsin Madison.
As a former participant in Girls on Rock, I really valued the way that getting mentorship from early career scientists shaped my own career path and ambitions. When I first decided that I wanted to major in geology, I had very little idea where it would take me in terms of career path and what it would take to get there. Throughout my time volunteering at IGE, I’ve also discovered a passion for increasing accessibility to outdoor education especially for urban students, many of whom have never experienced what it's like to be a scientist out in the field. I’m excited to join the team officially and work on expanding IGE’s reach and contribute to making that same great experience I had for other students as well!
